Bed and mattress sizes in Spain
In Spain a bed is named after the width of the mattress: a “90 bed”, a “135”, a “150”. The length is almost always 190 or 200 cm. The frame, headboard and footboard add centimetres that are worth counting before you buy.
The usual sizes
- Single: 80 × 190 or 90 × 190 cm; youth beds also 90 × 200.
- 105 bed: 105 × 190 cm, a wide single or a couple's bed for a small room.
- Classic double: 135 × 190 cm, the size of many flats built from the 1970s to the 1990s.
- Today's double: 150 × 190 or 150 × 200 cm, the best seller.
- Large: 160 × 200, 180 × 200 and 200 × 200 cm.
- Mattresses 90 × 190 cm 209 models
- Mattresses 105 × 190 cm 131 models
- Mattresses 135 × 190 cm 139 models
- Mattresses 150 × 190 cm 137 models

The frame takes more room than the mattress
A storage bed base is usually the same size as the mattress. A wooden or upholstered frame adds 5 to 15 cm to the width and 5 to 25 cm to the length, depending on the headboard. What matters for the space is the outside size of the bed, not the mattress: it is on each product page.

Room around the bed
- 60–70 cm clear on each side you get in from.
- 70 cm at the foot if you need to walk past; 90 cm if a wardrobe with hinged doors is opposite.
- With a wall on one side, a double bed still needs a way in on the other.
Example: a bedroom 3 m wide takes a 150 bed with two 45 cm bedside tables and still leaves a passage on both sides.
