What to put in the space under the stairs

The space under the stairs is a triangle: tall at one end and almost nothing at the other. The way to use it is to split it into sections and find a piece for each.

How to measure it

  1. Measure the depth of the space, from the wall to the edge of the stairs.
  2. Mark 40–60 cm sections on the floor along the space.
  3. At each mark, measure the height to the stairs. That is the maximum height of furniture in that section.

The tall part

Where there is more than 180 cm, a wardrobe or tall shelving fits. For coats and the vacuum cleaner, a 40–60 cm wide wardrobe.

The middle and low part

Between 80 and 120 cm, chests of drawers and shoe cabinets; below 80 cm, boxes on castors or a storage bench. Sort by “Closest fit” to see what fills each section.
